Discussion:
Dead account in Sea Monkey Mail with empty folders won't Delete.

Here's a strange one. I changed my Broadband ISP from o2.co.uk to Virginmedia.com
Now I have a new default email account in my Sea Monkey Mail. I saved any of the old mail out to a backup drive, then deleted all mail from all folders. Then I
it contained nothing in the Inbox Sent folders etc.
closed that redundant account by removing it in the normal way, so no more "settings" exist for it.

Now there is left over, a dead account that won't delete from the listed accounts in the left side window.
I can rename it, so have called it "Silly Account Wont Delete" but it refuses to be cleared away. It sits there at the bottom of my accounts list with completely empty folders for Inbox Outbox Sent Drafts Trash and there's no command that will allow me to take it out of the list. Anyone got any idea where it is hiding so I can get it out of my Sea Monkey Face? !

It's not causing any harm or slowing anything down, just frustrating that normal operations won't get rid of it completely.

Thanks - in hope :-))

If you find your profile folder in Windows Explorer, the subfolder \Mail
should contain one subfolder for each of your accounts. With SeaMonkey
closed, delete the offending one (it'll be obvious by its name). Restart
SeaMonkey.

If you make a mistake and delete the wrong folder, you can restore it
from the Recycle Bin. But do be careful.

Great quote that, in your text.
No sorry I drew a blank there. Searched the whole drive for anything called Profile or Profiles as a folder. It found quite a few but none of them had a Mail sub folder.

I even tried the one in Program Files Sea Monkey and Defaults and that only had localstore.rdf and panels.rdf and that wasn't any kind of Mail folder or related to the accounts.
I've tried using Agent Ransack to see if I could find any folder with the name of my redundant account but being within a Mail Program, it's encoded so doesn't show up in a search even within archives.

So that is to my mind a bit weird. Where has the folder gone? There doesn't appear to be one for my two "active" POP 3 accounts either.

Any clues?

Open the browser, type about:support in the address bar, look for
Profile Directory under Application Basics in the Troubleshooting
Information window that opens. Click Open Directory.

That will tell you where your profile is located.

Or read the instructions at this link.

No good sadly - that didn't work either.
In Trouble Shooting [Application Basics] there's no Open Directory button, only Show Folder.
So I clicked that as the nearest to your description.
In there the only sub folders are
Bookmark Backups
Health Report
Storage
minidumps
Webapps
No files or directories with any mail profiles or account names in there at all.
I already went to your kindly posted link and that was where I was pointed to the Application Data Mozilla Sea Monkey Profiles where the desired directories or files don't exist either. It's a tricky one this but thanks to all who are trying to solve it for me - much appreciated your efforts.

I use the Linux version and that is the reason the nomenclature was
different. Sorry, I can't be of any further assistance.

Best left to the Windows experts.

More info but still not had the desired effect.
Possibly suspecting the search didn't look in system or protected files I looked in
C:\Users\MyName\Application Data\Mozilla\Sea Monkey\Profiles.
In there was a folder for each of my other two active accounts and 3 folders numbered as O2 accounts. I used to have 3 O2 accounts. None of these folders had any reference to my renamed folder so I went ahead and deleted them to the Recycle bin with Sea Monkey mail and browser closed. Returned to the Sea Monkey Mail and my rogue empty folder is still there.

So it's back to the drawing board I fear.

I'll try anything once except whelks!

Sorry but that's not the way it is on mine.

I've just been to check it again. Users Name App Data Roaming Mozilla Sea Monkey
Profiles and the code.default\Mail brings me back to where I was before with the old O2 accounts in 3 folders none of which contain the name of my renamed dead account. Those 3 folders were the ones I just posted to you that I tried deleting them to the Recycle Bin (with Sea Monkey mail closed) and then opened Sea Monkey Mail again and the dead account is still there.

I'm not trying to get rid of the account as I have already done that by Deleting it from Sea Monkey configuration when the account closed. After removing left over email from the associated INBOX and SENT folder and clearing the Trash one, I expected to be able to delete the listing from the Sea Monkey but it simply won't go. As I said earlier I re-instated those folders from the Recycle Bin. Should I have Rebooted after deleting them ?

Hope someone else can be more helpful.

(My SM is in french, so the names I give could be approximate.)
You can find the location of the folder for your account at

menu: edit / account parameters / "Silly Account Wont Delete" (or
whatever it is called now) / server parametres tab

The "local directory" field at the bottom of the page has the location
of the account folder.
If it is in the default location, its' parent directory contains the
file "profiles.ini", which shows the location of each account.
These 2 points apply to any standard version of Seamonkey, whatever the
platform.

I suspect that the account doesn't delete because the account folder is
write protected, or alternately, there is an anti-virus function active
on your computer that is recreating the folder each time you delete it.
(I ran into that problem when I used to use msw. One of the incentives
to switch to Linux.)

hope that helps

That is a very old issue Seamonkey, and Mozilla, and Communicator use
to do that all the time. It is or was in a Pain in the ass to fix. I
thought SeaMonkey fixed that 10 years ago. Best I can remember you had
to first delete the reference in Edit mail and newsgroups then
immediately go in Mail or news and and delete all references you can
locate them in profile folder move to the trash and empty. Then Restart
computer. Before opening. Some time wouldn't do any good and you'd have
to try 5 or 6 times before it finally took. Then out of the blue a month
or two it would start up again. Maybe it was a Full moon.

I hope we haven't started that mess again.

(I think this might be what andre was suggesting, in his French/broken
English)

In the Mail & Newsgroups screen of SeaMonkey, select Edit -> Mail &
Newsgroups Account Settings and, on the left of this screen, select the
email account you want to delete, then, at the bottom left of this
screen, select Remove Account.

Job Done, hopefully!!
